WHAT IS LATEM REFINERY

LATEM Refinery is dedicated to the production of aluminium alloys in ingots or liquid aluminium from scrap recycling.

In order to meet the specific production applications of our customers and the needs of each business sector, we offer a wide range of products and alloys in three different formats: ingots (approx. 8kg), sow (ingot of approx. 900kg) and liquid aluminium.

With a production capacity of 45,000 tons per year, Latem Refinery is one of the largest producers in Spain.

LATEM REFINERY PRODUCTION PROCESS

LATEM Refinery‘s production process is based on the melting of aluminium scrap in a rotary furnace, where liquid aluminium is obtained with a chemical composition that depends on the type and proportions of the scrap used. Subsequently, the aluminium obtained in the rotary furnace is passed to reverberatory furnaces where the composition can be modified by adding alloying agents and, once the desired chemical composition has been obtained, the metal is cast in different formats.

LATEM AND QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Quality, the basis of our commitment to our customers.

Ensuring the quality of our processes, products and services is a primary concern of our company so that our customers can fully satisfy their needs.

Produced with state-of-the-art equipment, LATEM Refinery‘s aluminium alloys are of the highest quality. Intended for demanding sectors, we guarantee compliance with specifications and perfect traceability of our products. To this end, we are internationally certified to the ISO 9001 standard and have implemented a strict quality control based on two main pillars:

EXHAUSTIVE CONTROL OF ALL RAW MATERIALS
  • Radiological control
  • Quality control of aluminium metal content/impurities

QUALITY CONTROL OF PROCESS OUTPUTS
  • Process: control of parameters such as temperature, %O2 in combustion, pressure in holding tanks, controls on ingoting process.
  • Product: control of the chemical composition of the metal during and after casting.

LATEM AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Recycling aluminium means caring for the environment.

Caring for our environment is an integral part of our activity. The melting of aluminium scrap enables a drastic reduction of waste volume and thus minimises the impact on the environment.

100% recyclable and virtually indefinitely reusable, aluminium products do not lose their properties. Second-melt aluminium allows considerable energy savings (approx. 95%) and significantly reduces CO2 emissions compared to the production of first-melt aluminium.

Through the use of environmentally friendly technologies and pollution prevention practices, we ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations and the reduction of our environmental footprint.
