A circular economy project

Aluminium is the most suitable material for a future governed by the principles of the Circular Economy. A necessary process for both the planet and the economy, and with sustainability as a goal.

The LatemAluminium project is based on the circular economy and the use of the most advanced technologies.  It is based on the principle of “closing the life cycle of products, services, waste, materials, water and energy, all while respecting natural and human ecosystems”.

From waste to resource: the circularity of aluminium and sustainability

  • The raw material of the project is aluminium scrap, the treatment of which allows it to be converted back into rolled and processed aluminium, which, in turn, can be used to manufacture products that will find a new use on the market, while saving 95% of the energy needed to produce aluminium using traditional methods from alumina. After use, these products can be newly recycled to start the process all over again, thus closing the circularity of aluminium.
  • The waste (salt slag) produced in part of the scrap melting process will be recycled to recover the metallic aluminium (which returns to the process) and the salt (which will be reused in the process), leaving a non-metallic residue that can be used in other industrial sectors. Thus is created waste circularity.
  • We will have photovoltaic, renewable energy production, which will be used for self-consumption and for the production of hydrogen to be used as a fuel, thus contributing to the limitation of emissions and to decarbonization.
